Dr Hughes is a Consultant Anaesthetist working at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford part of Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust (MSEFT). He was appointed as a Consultant in 2015 and has practicing privileges at the Spire Wellesley hospital, Southend on Sea.
Dr Hughes qualified from St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London School of Medicine & Dentistry and completed his training within the Royal London School of Anaesthesia. He is currently clinical lead for Perioperative Medicine within MSEFT and NHSE East of England co-clinical lead for Perioperative Medicine.
Dr Hughes has experience providing anaesthesia for a wide range of surgical specialities including Orthopaedic, Urology, Gynaecology, Vascular and General surgery (including robotic and laparoscopic techniques).
He has a particular interest in the perioperative care of patients including preoperative optimisation to ensure patients are optimally prepared for their surgical procedure. This enables his patient’s the best opportunity for a successful recovery and return to a normal healthy life.
